What a stuck loading dock door actually costs
A single door failure can disrupt a full day's receiving schedule.
Last winter I got a call from a light-manufacturing facility near the Waukesha industrial corridor. A loading dock door, the overhead door at truck-bed height built for constant freight clearance, had stopped midway and would not go up or down. They had a truck scheduled to back into that bay in forty minutes, and the other two bays were occupied.
I ran diagnostics and found a snapped heavy-duty torsion spring. On a sectional door that size, one broken spring means the counterbalance is completely off; the opener tries to compensate and stalls. I had the right commercial-rated spring set on the truck, matched to the door's weight class. The replacement took just under an hour. The truck made its window.
That is the scenario most commercial clients face. The door was not neglected, it had been used hard, as loading dock doors are. The downtime would have been significant if the repair had needed a parts order and a return trip. That is exactly why DiamondLift Garage Door stocks commercial hardware separately from residential inventory.
